Retiring Reno Leader Leaves Void in Services and Assistance for Immigrants

After 11 years as executive director of Nevada Hispanic Services, Jesse Gutierrez has retired from Nevada Hispanic Services, located in Reno, Nevada.
In addition to organizing cultural and community events, promoting Latino young professionals, and founding a bilingual primary school, Mr. Gutierrez and his organization had provided low-cost legal services to Latino immigrants facing deportation or seeking to legalize their status.
The services of an experienced immigration attorney are essential if an illegal alien is to overcome deportation proceedings or other serious immigration issues. When strong immigration defense is needed, an excellent immigration lawyer is worth every penny.
On the other hand, many immigration procedures are routine and require a lower level of expertise. Nevada Hispanic Services has provided this kind of low-cost, lower-stakes legal support to the Northern Nevada community. Our hope is that it will continue to provide these services even absent Mr. Gutierrez, or that another qualified organization will arise to meet this need in our community.
