Homeland Security Looks to Strictly Verify Identification

Posted on | July 16, 2009 | No Comments

According to the New York Times, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano endorsed legislation on Wednesday to replace the Real ID law, which required states to scrupulously verify the identity of people to whom it issues driver’s licenses, including verifying information they submit, like Social Security numbers and birth certificates.
The proposed new law would require states to verify the identity of people to whom it issues driver’s licenses, including verifying information they submit, like Social Security numbers and birth certificates.
An alien or undocumented worker whose drivers license is about to expire will not be able to renew the same without proof of legal status.
