Immigration Reform
President Barack Obama is presenting a plan to Congress to permit those who entered the United States without a Visa to be sponsored by a U.S. citizen spouse or an employer to obtain authorization to work and to begin the process to obtain legal permanent residence.
The immigrant must prove that he/she has a clean criminal record (has never been convicted of a crime) and is currently paying United States income taxes. The alien’s employer must also show that a job is not being taken away from a U.S. citizen. The exact details of what will become legislation and when these reforms will come to pass is unknown at the present time.
